2026 Jeep Recon
2026 Subaru Uncharted

Safety

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Recon are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Uncharted doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Recon. But it costs extra on the Uncharted.

The Jeep Recon’s 360-degree camera is equipped with washers for its front and rear cameras, ensuring crystal-clear visibility in any weather condition. Conversely, the Subaru Uncharted only offers a rear camera washer, which may not provide the same level of all-weather performance.

The Recon has standard Uconnect Access, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Uncharted doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Recon and the Uncharted have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Jeep Recon weighs 1632 to 1967 pounds more than the Subaru Uncharted. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

There are almost 4 times as many Jeep dealers as there are Subaru dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Recon’s warranty.

Engine

The Recon’s standard electric motors produces 429 more horsepower (650 vs. 221) than the Uncharted’s standard electric motor. The Recon’s electric motors produces 312 more horsepower (650 vs. 338) than the Uncharted Sport/GT’s standard electric motors.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Recon’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Uncharted:

Recon

Uncharted

Front Rotors

13.8 inches

12.9 inches

Rear Rotors

13.8 inches

12.5 inches

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Recon has larger tires than the Uncharted (265/70R18 vs. 235/60R18).

The Recon has a standard full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the Uncharted; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Recon’s wheelbase is 4.6 inches longer than on the Uncharted (112.9 inches vs. 108.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Recon is 3 inches wider in the front and 2.7 inches wider in the rear than on the Uncharted.

For greater off-road capability the Recon has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Uncharted (9.1 vs. 8.2 inches), allowing the Recon to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Passenger Space

The Recon has 17.7 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Uncharted (111.3 vs. 93.6).

The Recon has 3.2 inches more front headroom, .7 inches more front hip room, .6 inches more front shoulder room, 3.1 inches more rear headroom, 6.3 inches more rear legroom, 10.2 inches more rear hip room and 2.9 inches more rear shoulder room than the Uncharted.

Cargo Capacity

The Recon has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Uncharted (30.3 vs. 25.4 cubic feet).

A standard locking center console keeps your small valuables safer in the Recon. The Uncharted doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

Towing

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the Recon uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Uncharted doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

The Recon’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Uncharted’s power window (except driver window) and power lock switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Recon to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Uncharted doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The Recon has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Uncharted Sport/GT.

The Recon’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The Uncharted’s navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

The Jeep Recon has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the overhead console. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Subaru charges extra for Homelink® on the Uncharted.

The Recon’s Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Uncharted doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
